North Carolina State University has been awarded $39.4 million from the Department of Defense to serve as the leader of a regional innovation hub in wide bandgap semiconductors. The regional hub, dubbed CLAWS (“Commercial Leap Ahead for Wide Bandgap Semiconductors") includes one other university partner, N.C. A&T State University, as well as six industry partners. A new report from the National Science Foundation shows that NC State increased its federal research expenditures by nearly 65% from 2010-19 – percentage gains that outperformed all but one of its peers – and ranked first among all institutions in research and development financed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
