Maharashtra: SOP likely for industries with eye on possible third wave | Pune News

Industry heads had sought SOP
PUNE: Principal secretary of industries Baldev Singh on Saturday said the government would soon come out with the standard operating procedures for all sectors in view of the likelihood of a third wave of Covid-19.
The industry heads sought standard operating procedures (SOPs) to resume activities following all Covid protocols during their interactions with the district collectors. “The SOPs issued will be for all industries to ensure their seamless functioning ahead of the impending threat of the third wave,” Singh said.
The collectors would draw up plans for districts concerned after taking inputs from the industry bodies. Singh said the matter was discussed during a video conference with all the collectors on Friday evening. Relief and rehabilitation secretary Assem Gupta said the movement towards normal socio-economic activities hinged on vaccination. Pune district collector Rajesh Deshmukh said, “If SOPs are given, the industries can adhere to the guidelines.”

Hold talks with industries' heads on resumption of operations, says Maharashtra chief secretary Sitaram Kunte to collectors | Pune News

Maharashtra chief secretary Sitaram Kunte
PUNE: Chief secretary Sitaram Kunte on Saturday said all collectors had been directed to sit with the industries’ heads and draw up plans to resume work with Covid-appropriate protocols in place amid the threat of a possible third wave so that economic activities could pick up pace.
Kunte said representatives of various industries should discuss the matter with their respective District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA). “The basic outline has been drawn by the state, but the local authorities should incorporate protocols, depending on the local situation,” Kunte told TOI.
“Staggered timings for operations or bio-bubbles, which minimise the risk of Covid infection, should be adopted by the industries. This should be the base of the plan. Collectors or DDMAs understand the local conditions better and they should draw up the plan following the state-level guidelines,” said Kunte, adding the collectors would have to talk to the respective industry heads to chalk out the final plan.

Shopkeepers defer stir after Maharashtra CM seeks 2 days for rethink | Mumbai News

A man rests his legs on the step of a shuttered shop in the city
MUMBAI: Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday held a virtual meeting with traders to pacify them over the shutdown of shops amid the Covid-19 situation. Hopeful of a breakthrough, shop owners’ federations agreed to hold off Thursday’s planned protests for two days as they await his response.
Thackeray informed the wholesalers and retailers that the state would consider their demands and suggestions. He said the government did not want to hamper business and the only aim of the restrictions was to reduce crowds. “We are in this fight together. The government is not your enemy, we don’t want business to suffer. Give me two days to think about what can be done without adding to the risk of spreading the infection,” he said.
