The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the New York State Water Resources Institute (NYSWRI) at Cornell University today announced $325,994 in grant awards for 11 projects that address a range of environmental research and education needs to advance water resource and ecosystem restoration priorities for New York’s Great Lakes, Hudson River Estuary, and Mohawk River basin watersheds.

The Research Foundation for the State University at New York Cobleskill will receive a grant for flood hazard risk reduction along Cobleskill Creek.

Chair of the Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force and New York State Canal Corporation Director Brian U. Stratton announced that the task force has concluded its year-long investigation.

The Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force will hold a public town hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at the Rome campus of Mohawk Valley Community College, 1101 Floyd Ave.

Oneida County officials believe they already are working on some of the issues laid out in the recently released Mohawk River Basin Action Agenda.
