LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A large group of protesters gathered at Riverside Park Thursday evening before marching through Downtown La Crosse.
Organized by the high school group, “Black Student Leaders,” they’re calling for justice following the shooting death of Daunte Wright – another Black man killed at the hands of police.
The group brought community members together to connect with one another; listening and sharing the trauma, pain, and hurt many have been feeling over this past year.
One organizer said the impact of the murders of Daunte Wright, George Floyd, and far too many others goes beyond the Black community. ....

"Drift Cycle" bike sharing program launches in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Whether you have somewhere to go or just want to do a leisure activity, there’s a new opportunity to get outdoors in La Crosse.
La Crosse Neighborhoods Inc., Beer By Bike Brigade, the city, and county officially rolled out the “Drift Cycle” bike-sharing program Thursday.
People can stop by one of the eight bike stations, located around the Downtown La Crosse area.
After years in the making, this bright idea is finally a reality.
“We have had our mind set on moving the needle on bicycle infrastructure in this community and this is just one more way the community is working together to do that. We need to have more people biking, we need to have more people feel safe, and most importantly have fun while doing it,” said Jacob Sciammas, La Crosse Community Bike Share Chair. ....

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A virtual round table is focusing on pressing issues in agriculture and conservation.
Sen. Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska), Rep. Jill Billings (D-La Crosse), and the DATCP Secretary-designee Randy Romanski are hosting the event Monday from 4:30 – 5:30 pm.
Along with agriculture and conservation, they will also discuss Gov. Tony Evers’ (D-WI) proposed 2021-23 biennial budget, and take questions from attendees.

"Pinwheels for Prevention" placed in Burns Park to raise awareness about child abuse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – “Pinwheels for Prevention” is helping raise awareness about child abuse in our community.
An annual activity, Friday the Coulee Region Child Abuse Prevention Task Force placed pinwheels throughout Burns Park on Seventh Steet, across from the public library.
“We like to do it on a very visible street so when people drive by they’re reminded that, yes, we live in an amazing community, but we also have abuse and neglect happening,” said Chairperson of the task force Nicole Milliren.
The pinwheels are a visual representation of a worrisome issue that often happens behind closed doors. ....
