There are calls for more engagement as new Indianapolis City-County Council district maps move closer to being finalized.

The proposed Indianapolis City-County Council district map gives Republicans some advantages. The new map also creates competition among Democrats.

Marion County Democrats are calling for change to the party's pre-primary process, citing conflicts of interest with the current county chair.

Councilors voted 18-6 to change the ordinance, with the five Republicans and Democratic councilor Monroe Gray voting against.  "Smokers are taxpayers just like non-smokers. And all the parks are supported by tax dollars," Gray said. "So I think that a person who wants to walk through the park and have an afternoon smoke, that should be his privilege." The city's smoke-free ordinance was passed in 2005 and strengthened in 2012 to include bowling alleys, most restaurants, bars and most places of employment.
