Sunbury and Bulla residents are a step closer to having toxic soil from the West Gate Tunnel Project dumped in their backyard.
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) approved waste management and recycling company Hi-Quality’s second Environment Management Plan (EMP) earlier this month. The decision paves the way for Hi-Quality to receive PFAS and asbestos-contaminated soil at the Sunbury Eco-Hub on Sunbury Road in Bulla.
The company’s original EMP was approved in September. However, Hi-Quality was invited by the EPA to resubmit an EMP in December, after a legal review into the regulator’s process resulted in all tenderers’ EMP approvals being revoked. ....

Melton council has launched legal action in the Supreme Court against the state government’s approval of toxic West Gate Tunnel soil being dumped in Ravenhall, the latest twist in the long-running saga.
State Planning Minister Richard Wynne late last year delivered approval for Cleanaway to receive and store contaminated soil from the $6.8 billion project at its Ravenhall tip and for Maddingley Brown Coal to take the soil in Bacchus Marsh.
But Melton council’s chief executive last week instructed lawyers to challenge the planning minister’s green light for the soil to be processed in the area. ....

West Gate Tunnel: Andrews government challenged in court over disposal of PFAS-contaminated soil

The Andrews government is being sued by a group of residents and a council in Melbourneâs west over plans to dump soil contaminated with potentially carcinogenic PFAS chemicals from the West Gate Tunnel in landfills located close to homes.

Documents lodged in the Supreme Court on Thursday show the Moorabool community group has requested a judicial review of Planning Minister Richard Wynneâs decision to amend the Moorabool Planning Scheme, which would allow potentially millions of tonnes of PFAS-contaminated soil to be dumped at the Maddingley Brown Coal landfill in Bacchus Marsh. ....
