NRCS / ACEP-ALE FUNDING

(SPRINGFIELD) The Natural Resource Conservation Service has announced funding is now available for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program and the Agricultural Land Easement (ACEP-ALE) program. Through conservation easements, NRCS provides financial assistance to eligible partners to assist with the purchase of Agricultural Land Easements (ALE), which helps farmers and landowners keep working croplands and grasslands in active, profitable agriculture production. While the ALE sign-up is continuous, funding cut-offs are established to allow eligible applications to compete for funding. The first funding cutoff for this fiscal year is March 22, 2021. Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, interested producers need to set up phone appointments with their local NRCS office or logon at www.nrcs.usda.gov.

(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 2,104 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday with 44 additional deaths, bringing the state’s new death toll due to coronavirus-related issues to 20,626. In the latest hospitalization report, of the 1,260 people in statewide hospital with COVID-19, 275 are in Intensive Care Units and 138 others are currently on ventilators. (SPRINGFIELD) A downstate man has received the Bill Mehrtens Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge. Mt. Vernon resident Dan Lovin has been the Chaplain for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Vernon Police Department, and the FOP State Lodge Chaplain for more than 20 years. Presented at the Illinois FOP Board meeting held in Springfield, Lovin is credited with saving several officers who were contemplating suicide and he has performed numerous crisis interventions and stress counseling sessions throughout the state, especially in the downstate region. Lovin has also been recognized with receiving the National FOP Chaplain’s award as well.

(WASHINGTON) Congresswoman Mary Miller has introduced her first legislative bill out in the nation’s capitol. The Safety and Opportunity for Girls Act would clarify that nothing in Title IX (9) of the Education Amendments of 1972 can be interpreted to give the Biden Administration the authority to prohibit schools from maintaining sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, sports teams, and academic programs. The bill adds a clear definition of sex to Title IX (9) to clarify that “sex” means biological sex, not gender identity. U.S. Representative Miller says that she is sponsoring the plan to protect spaces for women and girls in school.

LOCAL COVID-10 VACCINATION UPDATE

(OLNEY/NEWTON) The Richland County TB & Health Office in Olney has experienced a decrease in its vaccine allotment for Richland County first doses. Therefore, no first dose clinics are scheduled at this time, however to get on the first dose COVID-19 wait list, call weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 to 5:00 each day, at 618-320-1082. Meanwhile, the TB & Health Office in Olney is continuing with its second dose clinics both this week and next week as scheduled. The Office will be administering first doses to those individuals on the wait list as doses become available. That’s for those who live and work in Richland County.
