Gabriel returns to ODI squad - Barbados Today

Veteran fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has been recalled to the West Indies One-Day International side for the first time in almost four years, in a 15-man squad for next month’s three-match series against South Africa.The 34-year-old spearheaded Trinidad and Tobago Red Force’s attack at the Super50 Cup last November, finishing with 15 wickets at 14 runs apiece.Gabriel is the only noteworthy inclusion as selectors have kept faith with the core of the squad which featured in the last ODI series against New Zealand in the Caribbean eight months ago.“We have had some injuries to our fast-bowling pool so therefore, we see Gabriel as an ideal fit heading into South Africa, and the surfaces we expect to play on,” said chief selector, the Most Honourable Desmond Haynes.“It is felt that we need someone to get those early wickets and he is the kind of bowler that can do that. Judging from his performances in the CG United Super50 Cup, he is potentially a wicket-taking option up front.” ....

President XI squad to face Bangladesh tomorrow

ST JOHN’s, Antigua – In-form left-hander Tagenarine Chanderpaul will have another chance to impress selectors after being named in the Cricket West Indies President’s XI to face touring Bangladesh on Friday.The 26-year-old son of Test legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul struck two hundreds in gathering 439 runs at an average of 73, for Guyana Harpy Eagles in the just concluded Regional First Class Championship.His form saw him named on Wednesday as one of two reserves for the Test squad which take on Bangladesh in the opening Test next week.Chanderpaul will be joined in the President’s XI by fellow Guyanese Tevin Imlach, 25, who averaged 53 during the championship and 23-year-old batsman Alick Athanaze, who hit two half-centuries for Windward Islands Volcanoes. ....

Reifer in WI Test squad to face Bangladesh

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Veteran right-hander Devon Thomas has been called up to face Bangladesh in the first Test starting next week but West Indies will be without rested marquee all-rounder Jason Holder while ace new-ball seamer Kemar Roach is battling to be fit for the two-match series.The 32-year-old Thomas, who has played 21 One-Day Internationals and four T20 Internationals, will be joined by Guyana Harpy Eagles left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and Barbados Pride fast bowling all-rounder Raymon Reifer, as the additions to the squad.Shamarh Brooks, who struggled in the England series back in March and averaged 15, has been dropped along with left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who took five wickets at an average of 50. ....
