New Circulating Cooler with CO2 Refrigerant Announced Labmate Online

With the new Unichiller 220Tw CO
2, Huber Kältemaschinenbau presents another milestone in environmentally friendly refrigeration technology. The new chiller uses CO
2 as a refrigerant. CO
2 or carbon dioxide (also known as R744) is a natural component of air and has been proven in refrigeration since the 19th century. The colourless gas liquefied under pressure, has no ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0), and has a negligible greenhouse gas potential with a GWP = 1. If, for example, 1 kg of CO
2 enters the atmosphere through a leak in the refrigerating circuit, this is 3780 times less damaging than with the conventional refrigerant R404A. In addition, CO ....

Versatile Web Based Digital Sample Management

Feb 10 2021 Read 437 Times
Ziath has introduced a new version of DP5, its versatile web-based software product that allows scientists to directly read 2D-barcoded tubes at the point of sample storage or retrieval.
DP5 offers a convenient way to use a 2D barcoded tube or rack scanner anywhere across a laboratory or an organisation’s site where a suitable laptop or computer is available. Thanks to its web server design, DP5 will run on both Microsoft and Apple operating systems. DP5 can run from any computer on a building’s local network, to which a Ziath reader is also attached, using a web-based highly intuitive graphical user interface. Designed to run on Ziath s popular camera-based 2D barcode scanners - the Mirage, Express and the Cube - DP5 provides visual confirmation of tube identity and individual tube image inspection. ....

Small Scale Photoreactor for Screening Experiments

Asynt announce the DrySyn Illumin8 - a new, beautifully engineered, 8-position parallel photoreactor for research chemists.
Based upon a modified version of Asynt’s popular DrySyn OCTO reactor, the DrySyn Illumin8 allows users to run up to 8 parallel photochemical reactions at a time in precision borosilicate tubes, up to 6 mL in volume. The unit mounts on a standard magnetic hotplate stirrer enabling powerful agitation and heating (up to 80°C). Easy to use connectors, on top of the DrySyn Illumin8, allow for an inert atmosphere or vacuum to be applied to each reaction tube. These features, coupled with the ability to safely sample or make additions to each ongoing reaction, make the DrySyn Illumin8 the ideal tool for consistent and reliable photochemical reaction screening experiments. ....

How Has Stroke Treatment Changed?

Jan 23 2021 Read 4688 Times
After years criticism and scepticism from the medical industry, Australian neurologist Anne Abbott is gaining recognition for her research suggesting strokes can be prevented without surgical intervention. Instead of resorting to procedures such as carotid surgery and stents, Abbott says medication and lifestyle changes can play a significant role in reducing the risk of stroke due to the thickening of arteries, which can cause carotid stenosis and lead to blockages.
“For decades, it was standard practice to operate on people who have carotid stenosis – by cutting open an artery and removing the narrowing,” added Abbott. “More recently, carotid stenting was introduced, and this is even more dangerous than surgery. But my research a decade ago showed, in many cases, these procedures are unnecessary or cause net harm,” says Abbott. “Major improvements can simply be made by medical – as opposed to procedural – interventions, such ....
