CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts has proposed a 20-cent property tax increase to fund road improvements, citing the city s transportation needs and rapid growth.
In a release Wednesday, Pitts said the tax increase would fund âTier 1 of the Transportation 2020 +â project and would generate $6.9 million per-year to invest in road improvements.
City officials said Clarksvilleâs current property tax rate is $1.0296 per $100 of assessed value, which they said is much lower than several comparable cities, such as Chattanooga at $2.277, Knoxville at $2.4638 and Murfreesboro at $1.2894. ....

Beale Street in Clarksville: New bill allows open container in 'Downtown Entertainment District'

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Open container will soon be allowed in downtown Clarksville during certain days and hours thanks to new state legislation designating a “Downtown Entertainment District.”
According to bill, sponsored by Rep. Jason Hodges and Sen. Bill Powers, the city can now designate times to allow open container outdoors. Traffic would be shut down on affected streets during these hours.
“It brings a little bit of Beale Street to Clarksville,” Hodges told Clarksville Now.
“We have remarkable new investments in our downtown area, but there is more potential,” Powers said, adding that the new law will increase tourism and encourage job creation. ....

Arena in downtown Clarksville to be named after F&M Bank

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The arena under construction in downtown Clarksville finally has an official name, or the start of one: F&M Bank.
The bank is buying naming rights to the facility, but it is not yet decided whether it will be called the F&M Bank Arena, F&M Bank Event Center or, as some jokingly suggested at the announcement Tuesday afternoon, the F&M Bank Hippodrome.
