DAVAO Region recorded its first three coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases infected with the B.1.1.7. variant, also known as the UK variant, of the Sars-CoV-2 on February 12, 2021. The new variant is known to be more transmissible.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), the three cases are a 10-year-old male, a 54-year-old female, and a 33-year-old male.
The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro confirmed on February 13 that two cases are from their province: the 33-year-old male is from Compostela and the 54-year-old female from New Bataan. The 33-year-old male tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2 on January 26. He is currently admitted at the Municipal Isolation Unit of Compostela and is currently on his 28th day of isolation. The 54-year-old female tested positive on January 26 and was placed in isolation at the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital-Montevista. On February 2, she was tested again and her results came out negative. She was discharged on February 6. However, according to the Provincial Government, she was placed under isolation again after she was confirmed to be infected with the new variant. Both patients are asymptomatic.
