Gannet shooting: Auckland Council rules out extra security at Muriwai colony

An Auckland Council spokeswoman said the incident was being treated as isolated and there were no plans to put further security cameras up.
She confirmed there were CCTV cameras around the gannet colony, but wouldn’t say exactly where for security reasons.
Restricting access to the colony is also not being considered at this time, she said.

Simon Runting said he wanted whoever was responsible for killing the birds found.
“It is public access to the beach and gannet colony at Muriwai, and we don’t want to punish the vast majority of respectful visitors for the cowardly violent actions of perhaps one or two people.” ....
