Brevard County has begun removing thousands of trees at Malabar Scrub Sanctuary to help save threatened scrub jays and other species
Measure would issue up to $50 million in bonds of 20 years, payable from property tax rate not to exceed 14.65 cents per $1,000 of taxable property.
Brevard wants the sanctuary's tall trees thinned out by March, when scrub jays begin to build their nests in smaller trees and shrubs.
