Lauded chef Alejandro Paredes is casting a wider net for his Fish Lonja concept.
The companion spot to Carnitas Lonja, the popular spot on Roosevelt, opened in 2019 with fresh fish and shrimp ceviches and fish tacos. The food is fresh and light, a nice counterpart to the unctuous carnitas Paredes has received plenty of accolades for, with nods in Eater and Esquire in 2018.
The food and Paredes caught the attention of Chad Carey of the Empty Stomach Group behind Barbaro, Extra Fine, Rumble, Pizza Party, Little Death and Hot Joy. The result? Mutual respect for all things Empty Stomach and Carnitas, in which will now result in a partnership between Paredes and the Empty Stomach Group.

San Antonio's Social Spot lets guests bring their own barbecue pit for Super Bowl

We've heard of "Bring Your Own Beer," but "Bring Your Own BBQ Pit" is a first.
Social Spot, a bar along the Broadway corridor, is allowing guests to do just that so they can cook for their friends and family during Super Bowl LV on Sunday. The local outdoor bar told MySA.com it is recommending for folks to call ahead before hauling in their pit. However, it isn't required.
The bar will have designated areas for guests to set up their cook out. All pits will be spaced out and social distancing will be enforced, the local bar noted. Customers can not bring anything bigger than a barrel barbecue pit, so don't get ahead of yourselves, grillmasters.
