I m thinking, mississippi. naches, mississippi, what about there? mississippi river. feeding into it so we re looking at the ohio river, arkansas, red river. we have had several rain storms coming across dumping big amounts of rain and snow melt further to the north. like turning on a hose at the top of a slip and slide and just waiting for the water to come down to the bottom that s what s happening. that s where we are seeing the water continuing to pile up. we are expecting it oreach record levels in many of those stations. you mentioned helena and west helena. they flood under good circumstances. waiting for a situation out of louisiana, another spillway north of baton rouge. everything i m reading and ....
That water has to go somewhere, that is downstream, headed towards new orleans, but places like vieksberg will be crested, naches, those areas are going to crest higher than they ve ever seen, even higher than the 37 floods, after these floods, they built these levees and this is a test to see if the levees will hold and there s a concern about that as you head farther downstream. alisyn: my gosh, it sounds like obviously it s going to be a disaster there. we heard the mayor saying he knows that he can t just rely on television to tell people how desperate this situation is. they ve been going door to door. are people heeding the knock on the door when emergency workers say to get out? reporter: well, for the most part. those who didn t heed it, a lot of them were called afterwards and had to be rescued and they ve had this happening in memphis. at this point, we re about 47 1/2, maybe few inches over that and it s good to it s going to get 4 inches higher so we re not talking abo ....
In line, major to near record flooding is going to be expected here. vicksford, mississippi, this is another city we re going to watch. may 20, that s next week we re looking at that record flood. more than 14 1/2 feet. a few of these records could be beaten and go all the way back to 1915. we ll take you downstream a little bit further and show you who s next in line. this is naches. we head down toward louisiana and we ll watch for those crests to move down the 23rd, all the way down into baton rouge. we ve talked about some of these spillways that have been opened up to relieve some of that pressure. there are two more downstream. thee are not explosive type ones that we saw the last type of round but they re going to be dates that are going to be opening. this is a flood event, not a ....
Month. not everyone can build their own levee. and people on the delta are watching water levels. and now it s raining in some areas making an even muddier mess. the rain comes as the mississippi was cresting in naches at more than 60 feet. we re in mississippi with more on that. the waist-high water is frightening to see. the rain didn t help much. it s made officials here more worried about the flooding which is at crest stage here and holding probably at least through today. we re outside vicksburg. the roads are closed. they re mostly underwater. the flood stage here is holding. we re told at naches, the floods crested at the mississippi river at 62 feet, just short of 62 feet. that s about 14 feet above flood stage, and it s still holding. it will probably hold through today in many of these areas. also, we came back from a levee ....
