A bench of Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice Sathya Narayana Prasad said the State can ask for a self declaration form and any other valid ID cards including the Aadhaar card of such trans persons.
The State said that since 2015, it has been following a system that recognises the third gender and permits individuals to “choose without inhibition,” to identify as male, female or the third gender.
As per the Supreme Court’s NALSA judgement, transgender persons should be extended reservation in case of admission to educational institutions and for public appointments.
