Srinagar faces a severe shortage of green spaces, with only 169 parks covering 287 hectares, falling 50% short of recommended green space according to urban development guidelines. Now part of the Partap Park is being conevrted into a concrete structure for a memorial to security personnel who fell in the line of their duty. The declining green spaces have contributed to worsening air quality and air pollution-related health issues in Srinagar.
