Four new and two returning Broward School Board members are scheduled to be sworn in, but a clemency issue may prevent Rod Velez from joining the board.
Rod Velez has been dogged by questions about his eligibility due to a felony conviction. His voting rights were restored in 2020, but that didn’t automatically guarantee other rights, including holding public office and serving on a jury, according to rules prepared by the Board of Clemency. Other newly elected or reelected members were sworn in to the Broward School Board Tuesday.
