Lebanese artists address their country's crises in new exhibition


BEIRUT: “After the explosion, I was ready to give away everything I’ve ever done if it made the situation better. I hopped on any opportunity to donate my work in exchange for raising funds,” says Lebanese visual artist Ayla Hibri. “A lot of good people put together these platforms of exchange and it really felt like it was helping. It confirmed to me that art carries a kind of transferable honorable energy that can push people to do good.”
Hibri is by no means alone. Following the lethal blast in the Port of Beirut in August, Mary Cremin, the director of Void Gallery in Northern Ireland, reached out to Beirut Art Residency (BAR), offering the organization her support. She was willing to host a fundraising exhibition at her space in Derry, with all proceeds going towards the BAR Support Fund, which provides emerging artists with small grants. ....

.-Artsy, the largest global online marketplace for discovering, buying, and selling fine art by leading artists, will celebrate and support the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s art scene through two key initiatives. Launching on its marketplace in March, Artsy will spotlight this culturally important region through a trio of exhibitions in partnership with ArteEast to help the organization fundraise, and will also showcase programming from its leading MENA-based gallery partners.
From March 15th through 31st, Artsy will stage “Middle Eastern Galleries Now,” an event showcasing programming from our gallery partners based in the MENA region to our global audience of collectors that span nearly 200 countries across the globe. Online marketplace Artsy launches two new initiatives for art from the Middle East and North Africa

With the UAE art season under way, Artsy, a leading online marketplace for art, has launched two initiatives that focus on the Mena region.
Middle East Galleries Now
The first, Middle Eastern Galleries Now, is an online presentation with at least 21 galleries from the UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Palestine, including Carbon 12, 1x1 Art Gallery, Tabari Art Space, Lawrie Shabibi, Q0DE, Art d’Egypte and Zawyeh Gallery.
Akin to an art fair, the virtual exhibition, which opens on Monday
and runs until the end of the month, will include
booths for visitors to browse through and allow them to buy artworks directly from the galleries. ....
