Top athlete Caster Semenya is expected to perform 50 hours of community service after her arrest on a charge of reckless driving.
The 30-year-old appeared at the Pretoria magistrate’s court last week after being arrested for allegedly driving recklessly in her SUV on the N14 highway. 
“She was granted bail of R500,” said North Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana. ....

Caster Semenya gets 50 hours of community service after pleading guilty to reckless driving


She said:
She pleaded guilty to the charge. After she was assessed, a suitable diversion programme meant to address the offence was the sentence the court has given, which is 50 hours of community service.
The case was postponed to the 26 August for a report from the National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (Nicro).
Nicro works to facilitate alternatives to prison for some child and first-time offenders, including diversion programmes.
Should Semenya be found guilty she would end up with a criminal record.
According to Netwerk24, if an accused successfully completed the Nicro programme, the charge was dropped and the accused would not have a criminal record. ....

On Saturday afternoon, armed men terrorised the community in Maureen Way, Lost City, in Tafelsig. Five gunmen went on a shooting spree, killing four men between the ages of 30 and 64. The victims were shot at close range, suggesting that they were deliberately targeted.
The victims were sitting in front of their homes when they were taken by surprise by the gunmen in what seemed to be a coordinated attack. They were all shot in the head and the upper body. A fifth victim survived.
The shooting came days after 13-year-old Tamir Mitchells, a Grade 8 pupil at Beacon Hill High, and Morgan Munnik (18), a matriculant at Aloe High School, were killed in an apparent drive-by shooting in Cadillac Street, Beacon Valley, on Thursday night.  ....
