Hayley Jones was yesterday sentenced for brutally wounding Arthur Dale, in his own Toxteth home. The 31-year-old was told her sentence was so serious only an immediate prison sentence was justified, and she was also issued with a five-year restraining order.

Lian Clayton pinned Karren Bradshaw, who requires crutches to walk, on the floor with her knees and punched her. When a neighbour came to help she said she could hear "bones crunching" as the 25-year-old kicked the vulnerable mum. Unable to pull Clayton from Mrs Bradshaw, she held the woman's hand in comfort as she was battered and left with a broken nose, black eyes and impaired vision.
