Construction is set to begin on a nearly $25 million development of townhomes and vacation rentals in Silver Bay, the first of several projects to reinvent the city originally built as a mining company town. The long term aim is to bring more visitors and residents to Silver Bay to diversify its economy and, perhaps, embrace a new identity.
After decades of effort, the nonprofit that owns the historic building says a reopened facility could be just a couple years away. Meanwhile, the organization's education programs are expanding.
