10th MVC agency closed by COVID Updated Mar 16, 2021; The number of state Motor Vehicle Commission agencies closed by the coronavirus reached 10 Tuesday afternoon. The Rio Grande Licensing Center closed Tuesday afternoon after an employee tested positive for COVID-19 and is scheduled to reopen on March 29. The employee who tested positive was last in the agency Saturday, March 13, MVC officials said. The agency, located in Cape May County, had been shut down briefly by a technical problem on March 11. Drivers who had appointments at the Rio Grade agency will need to reschedule them on the MVC website. That means roughly 25% of the states 39 agencies are closed. ....

Tech glitch shuts down MVC agency in South Jersey Updated Mar 11, 2021; This one, however, can’t be blamed on COVID-19 or the MVC. A network outage closed the Rio Grande agency, similar to one on Feb. 24 that closed the Flemington Licensing Center and Newton Vehicle Center. Loss of network leaves the agencies unable to process transactions. Unfortunately, that means drivers who had appointments at Rio Grande will have to start the process over and reschedule them on the MVC website. The MVC made a slight gain when the Cherry Hill vehicle center reopened Thursday as scheduled. Two more agencies in Rahway and West Deptford are scheduled to reopen Friday. ....
Tech problems fixed that shut down two MVC agencies, one other will close this weekend Updated Feb 24, 2021; Two state Motor Vehicle Commission agencies that closed Wednesday morning have reopened to customers this afternoon, after a tech problem was fixed. The Flemington Licensing Center and Newton Vehicle Center were closed because a local Verizon network outage left those two agencies unable to process transactions. “Flemington Licensing Center and Newton Vehicle Center have resumed full operations after Verizon resolved local outage issues,” said William Connolly, an MVC spokesman. “We intend to honor all appointments at Flemington and Newton. Those with appointments we can’t service today will get courtesy appointments for later in the week.” ....
3 more MVC agencies closed by COVID Updated Jan 11, 2021; The closures affect the vehicle centers in Newton and Medford and the Salem Licensing Center. There is some good news: MVC officials expect the Manahawkin Vehicle Center, Toms River Licensing Center, and Edison Licensing Center to reopen Tuesday after being closed for sanitizing, quarantining and contact tracing. The Newton Vehicle Center will be closed until Jan. 20 after an employee who tested positive was last there on Jan. 5. Both Medford Vehicle Center and Salem Licensing Center will be closed until Saturday, Jan. 23. Individual employees who tested positive at each of these locations were in the buildings last on Jan. 8, officials said. ....
