  August 11, 2023 - The city of Greencastle and DePauw University are using a $250,000 planning grant awarded from the Lilly Endowment College and Community Collaboration Initiative to develop a plan to address infrastructure needs within the city of Greencastle related to housing, recreation, education, and aesthetics. Thursday, Dr. Andrea Young, Vice President for Finance and Administration, and Dr. Dionne Jackson, Vice President for Institutional Equity, representing the grant leadership team, provided updates to the Greencastle City Council regarding planning grant progress.

A 570-acre piece of undisturbed forestland west of Greencastle will be protected to support wildlife and plants and provide opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Friends of the Park of Putnam County, the county’s parks foundation, exceeded its 2022 endowment goal of $100,000 thanks to member contributions, a matching grant and two significant gifts, including $25,000 from the alumni of Delta Kappa Epsilon (Deke) fraternity in honor of Betty and Pete Jackson ’44. “Our goal is to raise $100,000 annually for five years,” said Friends of the Park Board President Jessica Hartman. “This was our first year, and we are very thankful to have been successful.”
