During her time at the First Judicial District’s Juvenile Court Services, Nicole Foelske allegedly used department credit cards to pay for thousands of dollars in unauthorized personal purchases, including teeth whitening supplies, basketball shoes and an Advent calendar, as well as groceries, school supplies and electronics. Foelske also bought hundreds of gift cards, which she routed through her PayPal account and then transferred to her personal bank account.

A report released by State Auditor Rob Sand today claims that Foelske purchased unauthorized food, beverages and gift cards totaling $107,745.46 between July 1, 2018 and October 31, 2019. Foelske allegedly bought 438 gift cards totaling nearly $87,000, of which she allegedly deposited more than $84,000 into her personal bank account.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Iowa State Auditor's Office involving the alleged misappropriation of money during Foelske's employment with the Iowa Department of Juvenile Services. A report released by State Auditor Rob Sand Tuesday morning shows the investigation identified $123,642.57 of improper and $11,436.36 of unsupported credit card charges and the related administrative fees. Foelske was found to have made $107,745.46 worth of unauthorized or improper charges of state money for her own personal benefit from July 1, 2018, through October 31, 2019.
