Equity indices trade with small gains; breadth strong

Barometers traded with small gains in early afternoon trade. All the sectoral indices on the NSE were in the green. Metal, pharma and PSU banks stocks rallied while FMCG shares saw profit selling. At 12:29 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 109.43 points or 0.22% at 49,618.51. The Nifty 50 index added 51.3 points or 0.35% at 14,742.25. Nifty March futures trade at premium

NSE VIX fell 0.16% to 20.1575.The Nifty March 2021 futures were at 14,756, a premium of 34.7 points compared with Nifty's spot closing of 14,721.30. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment was Rs 42.45 lakh crore compared with Rs 34.56 lakh crore in the previous session. In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index slumped 189.15 points or 1.27% to 14,721.30. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, fell 0.16% to 20.1575.
