17 new fires were discovered in the region by late afternoon on Friday, July 16 with more reports yet to be investigated, according to the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.
There are 95 active fires in the northwest region. Thirty-two fires are not under control, 10 fires are being held, 15 fires are under control and 38 fires are being observed. A total of 10 fires were called out today.
The forest fire hazard is high to extreme across the district and the Restricted Fire Zone remains in place.
The new fires discovered are;
Nipigon 52 (20 hectares, not under control) and Nipigon 53 (1 hectare, not under control) are located east of Steel River Provincial Park, approximately 27 kilometres north/northwest of Marathon. The fires received air attack this afternoon.  ....

Seventeen new fires were discovered in the northwest region by the early evening of July 16, with more reports yet to be investigated.
There are 95 active fires in the northwest region with thirty-two considered not under control.
10 fires were called out today and the fire hazard is predominantly extreme across the region.
Due to the extreme fire activity, the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry has issued implementation orders for the Red Lake and Kenora Districts that restricts access and use of certain roads and crown lands.
Until further notice, all travel, use and access to the following areas are prohibited unless authorized by a travel permit. ....

Mexican forest fire crews are set to arrive in Ontario this weekend to help with fire suppression efforts in the northwest, the province said Friday.
More than 100 firefighters and support staff are expected in Toronto on Saturday, and will help fight fires in northwestern Ontario, the province said.
In a release, the province said the crews from Mexico will be briefed on fire, safety and COVID-19 protocols before receiving their assignments. They ll will remain in their own cohorts while in Ontario.
A 17-person crew from Atlantic Canada is also being dispatched to Ontario. Further details, including when the firefighters are expected to arrive, weren t provided. ....
