The San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Department and the SLO Food Bank are handing out care packages for anyone struggling with the mental health burdens of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event is in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month this May.
Today at St. Joseph s Church in Nipomo, officials handed out the bags with hand sanitizer and information about local programs.
With covid and people being separated from being outside being together and just the stigma with mental health, it s really important to raise that awareness, said Timothy Siler, Administrative Services Officer with the Behavioral Health Department. San Luis Obispo County Public Health officials are reporting 3 new cases of COVID-19 over three days, bringing the county s total to 21,196 confirmed cases as of May 3.
Just one new case was added each day between Saturday and Monday.
Health officials say one person is currently hospitalized in the ICU. Another 138 are recovering at home and officials say 20,796 people have recovered.
San Luis Obispo County has had 260 deaths attributed to the virus.

COVID-19 cases plummeting in San Luis Obispo County

The average number of daily COVID-19 infections in San Luis Obispo County has plummeted over the past week, with 50% of eligible residents having received at least one vaccine dose.
The unadjusted weekly average fell from 7.9 per 100,000 people last week to 5.7 per 100,000 currently, according to California case statistics. To move into the less restrictive yellow tier, SLO County needs to have an adjusted case rate of two per 100,000 people or lower.
During the past seven days, SLO County reported 66 new cases. Of those, San Luis Obispo leads with 24 cases, followed by Paso Robles with 13 and both Atascadero and Arroyo Grande with seven. ....
