LIMA (Reuters) -Peru s opposition-led Congress pushed back a confirmation vote on the country s new Cabinet until next Thursday, in order to mourn the death of a lawmaker who suddenly died on Monday. Lawmaker Fernando Herrera Mamani, who belonged to the official Free Peru party, died of a heart condition, Congress said. The delay caused by Herrera Mamani s death will prolong the uncertainty over the fate of the new Cabinet, the second to be nominated by Socialist President Pedro Castillo in less than three months in office. Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez, a moderate leftist, told Congress earlier in the day she was seeking a new governability pact, in a speech that lacked significant new proposals. She said the administration would support private investment and submit a tax reform proposal meant to fund social programs. Peru is the world s No. 2 copper producer, and the mining sector is a key source of tax revenue. Castillo asked Guido Bellido to resign as prime minister on Oct. 6 foll ....
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian metals tycoon Oleg Deripaska attacked U.S. stupidity in a mocking social media post on Wednesday after FBI agents raided Washington and New York properties linked to his family. Washington imposed sanctions on Deripaska, 53, and other influential Russians in 2018 because of their ties to President Vladimir Putin after alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, which Moscow denies. It is convenient to feed one s electorate (brought up on Hollywood movies about horrible Russians) with all sorts of crap for another 10 years, he added. The two homes that, according to Deripaska, belong to his relatives were raided by the FBI on Tuesday. Two sources familiar with the investigation tol ....

In Washington, FBI agents sealed off and searched a mansion in one of the U.S. capital s wealthiest neighborhoods, carrying boxes out of the house, which had yellow CRIME SCENE DO NOT ENTER tape across the front, and towing away a vehicle.
