Between rising costs and the expiration of emergency federal funds, child care in Alaska faces a fiscal cliff this year.
The changes approved by the school board Tuesday mean that elementary school students will begin earlier while middle and high schoolers will start later.
The order will establish a governor’s task force on childcare within the Alaska early childhood coordinating council and the order will take effect immediately.
