It was an unprompted gesture that bowled over Wests Tigers Bowls Club president Scott Grayson. It is a great response from everybody, he said.  There has been a huge response from other clubs and through sponsorship. Because of the happenings at the front door, we thought it would be a bit of fun and (Wests Leagues Club) has been really great to us. He said sponsors came through with cash donations, vouchers and other items to be raffled off with proceeds going to the club. ....

Premium Content Subscriber only A West Mackay man punched in the head at the Northern Beaches Bowls Club is in intensive care in hospital. Emergency services were called to the club about 7.50pm Friday, where they found the 42-year-old victim unconscious. A Queensland Police spokeswoman said witnesses at the scene reported a person had punched the man in the head, causing them to fall backwards on the ground and become unconscious. The victim suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition. The police spokeswoman said the victim was in a stable condition at the Mackay Base Hospital’s intensive care unit at 8.40am today. ....
