NORTHFIELD The body recovered from the Connecticut River near the Route 10 bridge on Monday evening after being discovered by a passing cyclist has been identified as 43-year-old Michael Aldieri, of Hinsdale, N.H.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had not yet determined the cause of death as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Laurie Loisel, communication and outreach director for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
Aldieri had been reported missing from Hinsdale last week.
Northfield Fire Chief Floyd “Skip” Dunnell III told the Greenfield Recorder on Monday that firefighters from his department and the Northfield Dive/Rescue Team responded to the Route 10 bridge at around 6:50 p.m. after a caller reported seeing a man’s body floating, face down, in the Connecticut River.

NORTHFIELD First responders recovered a man’s body from the Connecticut River near the Route 10 bridge on Monday evening. The man’s identity is currently unknown.
According to Fire Chief Floyd “Skip” Dunnell III, firefighters from his department and the Northfield Dive/Rescue Team responded to the bridge at around 6:50 p.m. after a caller reported seeing a man’s body floating down the river, face down.
“The body was seen by a bicyclist crossing the Route 10 bridge,” Dunnell said.
After the Fire Department arrived, Dunnell said he saw the body about a football field’s length from the bridge, and advised his crew to be cautious as the body neared debris on the river.
