MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama lawmakers on Tuesday gave final approval to a math initiative that will use instructional coaches, assessments and interventions to try to boost the state's perpetually lagging test scores.
The Numeracy Act would provide coaching to students and allow the state to intervene in schools with low performance on math tests.
The budget will include teacher pay raises, funding for reading and math coaches, and increases in money for classroom supplies.
