The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of one Sandy Witness Udokpo before Justice Okon Okon of the State High Court, sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The convict was arraigned on June 21, 2018, on a three-count charge bordering on forgery and obtaining by false pretense. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, setting the stage for his trial. The convict’s journey to jail began on February 16, 2018, when the Commission received a petition from one Samuel Godwin Ekanem, the General Manager of Jopen Nigeria Limited who alleged he dispatched 45, 000 litres of diesel valued N8, 100, 000 .00 (eight million, one hundred thousand naira) to the convict who claimed to be a contractor with CCECC Nigeria Limited. ....

TODAY February 25, 2021 The trial-within-trial of a suspected serial fraudster, Scales Ishola Olatunji, was cut short on Thursday following a ruling by Justice Agatha Okeke of the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State which disqualified one Peter Mba from giving his testimony as a defence witness in the matter. Scales is being prosecuted by the Uyo zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 45-count charge bordering on conspiracy, impersonation, fraud and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of over N525m. The defendant had on December 10, 2020, through his counsel, Jane Obika objected to the admissibility of a document (Scales’ statement dated December 5, 2020) which was sought to be tendered by Nwandu Ukoha, counsel to the EFCC, through the PW3, Mohammed Sade. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Udemba alongside his company, Communication Trends Limited and one Samuel Onyeanuforo for allegedly broadcasting the EPL matches without the permission of MultiChoice Nigeria Limited on November 19 last year. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge preferred against them by the commission and were granted bail in the sum of N3m each with a surety each in like sum. The matter was adjourned till Wednesday for the commencement of trial. At the resumption of the trial, the defence counsel, S. O. Okuguni, informed the court that Udemba was unavailable due to ill-health and was receiving treatment in the United States. ....
