Two Chinese firms are embroiled in a vicious legal battle over a Sh20 billion dam project along the River Nyando in Kisumu County.
China Gezhouba, one of the firms that had been eyeing the contract, has moved to the procurement review board to contest the award of the tender to China Jiangxi Economic Cooperation.
The National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority in April selected China Jiangxi as the winner of the contract to construct the dam at Sh19.9 billion. ....

Floods wreak havoc in Nyanza

Floods in Nyanza and Lake Victoria backflow have caused havoc in the region, displacing thousands of people, destroying properties, and hindering learning in some schools.
Thousands of traders suffered a setback after a 41-year old bridge connecting Homa Bay and Migori counties collapsed.
More than 2, 200 families in Nyatike, Migori County have been affected by floods following heavy rains.
At Kakelo Kakoth Location, some 300 homes were submerged in water forcing locals to flee for safety.

Police arrest five terror suspects in Kisumu

Five suspected terrorists were on Sunday arrested in Kisumu County.
Nyando sub-county police boss Leonard Matete said three of the suspects were arrested in Ahero while two others were nabbed in Kombewa.
“The three suspects had boarded a matatu heading to Kericho but alighted in Ahero when they realized they were being tracked. They started walking back towards Kisumu after they learned that a police roadblock had been erected near Ahero,” Matete said.
The police boss revealed that the suspects had Pakistan passports and appeared to have been in the country for a long period of time. ....

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that flash floods are expected to hit the country starting today, Wednesday 28 April.
In a statement, the department singled out Mandera, Marsabit and Wajir counties where residents have been advised to take precautions.
The severity of the situation is expected to be moderate and the probability of the occurrence is gauged between 33% to 66%.

“Flash Floods are expected to occur in areas harboring the borders of Ethiopia and Kenya.
