WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's prime minister said Friday that “huge amounts of chemical waste” were probably dumped intentionally into the Oder River, which runs along the border with Germany, causing environmental damage so severe it will take the river years to recover.
Major rivers across Europe are at their lowest levels in years, and climate change will only make things worse for aquatic ecosystems. But allowing nature to take back control can help fix some of the damage.
Experts in the Czech Republic, the UK and the Netherlands are helping the investigation into the hundreds of tonnes of fish found dead in the Oder River.
