A SHOCKED community has bid farewell to one of its most well-kent faces. Andy Brown, who passed away last Monday after a short and sudden illness, was well known throughout North Berwick both as a talented music teacher who brought melodious joy to people’s lives and as “the man with the bells”. He was 58. Instantly recognisable on the streets of the town, a bearded Andy wore shorts no matter the season or weather, always had a string of bells round his neck, and would often be seen toting a guitar on his back. Born in Haddington on August 14, 1962, Andy moved to North Berwick with his dad William, mum Mary and sister Patricia when he was six.
NORTH Berwick’s annual arts festival has appointed its first artist-in-residence as it makes its post-Covid return this summer. Fringe by the Sea 2021 has chosen illustrator Eilidh Muldoon, who grew up in the town, to create visuals which will be displayed around North Berwick in the run-up to and during the festival. She will also be involved in the FBTS21 Art Club, launching on Saturday, May 15, with a live online event, giving residents the opportunity to create their own art and have it exhibited in the town. To sign up for the launch session, go to ctzn.tk/ArtClub Eilidh said: “I’m thrilled to be the first-ever artist-in-residence for Fringe by the Sea, especially as North Berwick is my home town.
