It may not really be the weather for it today but we are again able to visit a pub to have a drink outdoors after the latest easing of lockdown restrictions. The prospect of being able to go out and enjoy a drink and a socially distanced conversation may be another step towards getting back to a semblance of normality, but it also serves as another reminder of the pubs that are no longer with us. We asked members of our nostalgia Facebook group ‘We grew up in Watford’ which former pub in the area they would have visited first this week and why.

Cappinnis Pizza opened its doors on Silver Street and welcomed customers old and new. The business is headed up by Dylan Cappinni, who started a takeaway pizza business in his back garden four years ago. At first he began hosting pizza parties for his friends and family, and then he decided to turn his cooking into a business, with pop-up pizza nights at the Old Fox in Coaley and the Prince Albert in Stroud. At the start of the pandemic he offered a take away service from his home in Cam, but things got a bit hectic with his children at home, so he decided it was time to branch out.

WORK started this week on a new, purpose built community shop in the heart of Coaley. There has been a community shop in Coaley for 17 years, run from a portacabin that used to be a school classroom. This has done sterling service but is no longer fit for purpose. So villagers rallied round and started raising money.
