Leominster-based Fidelity Bank provided $10,000 in funding to the creation of the Major Taylor Museum, playing a key role in the completion of the project considered vital to Worcester’s cultural community.
The museum will honor the life and legacy of Worcester resident Marshall “Major” Taylor, who in 1899 became the first African American cycling world champion.
The 1,700 square foot museum honoring the man also known as the “Worcester Whirlwind” will be in the redeveloped Old Worcester Courthouse, 2 Main St.
“Major Taylor is a source of pride and inspiration for all of Worcester,” said Christopher W. McCarthy, Fidelity Bank president and COO. “We are proud to partner with Trinity Financial, Worcester Historical Museum, Major Taylor Association and the city of Worcester to contribute to this significant project.” ....
