Deuba eyes leading government as Oli hints at an understanding

Deuba eyes leading government as Oli hints at an understanding
Kathmandu Post
Kathmandu, Jan. 3 The Nepali Congress seems to be a confused party. While it did hold demonstrations in all 165 constituencies across the country on December 28 in protest of KP Sharma Oli government s move of dissolving the House of Representatives, the party president, Sher Bahadur Deuba, appears to have reached an understanding with Oli.
On December 29, while receiving a memorandum from All Nepal Women s Union, a sister organisation affiliated to the Nepal Communist Party, Oli declared that there is zero possibility of restoring the House. While justifying his House dissolution move, Oli urged the women leaders to prepare for the elections declared for April 30 and May 10-a year and a half earlier than schedule. ....

Constitutional Bench asks for reasons for House dissolution, seeks amicus curiae
Kathmandu Post
Kathmandu, Dec. 26 Indications are that it will be a while before the Supreme Court will give a verdict on the constitutionality of the KP Sharma Oli government s Sunday move of dissolving the House of Representatives.
A hearing on 13 writs against President Bidya Devi Bhandari s dissolution of the House on the recommendation of the Oli Cabinet began on Friday, but the next hearing is scheduled for January 6.
The Constitutional Bench ended Friday s hearing after listening to opening remarks of a handful of lawyers and making four significant orders. These include a show cause notice against the Office of the President and the government demanding a written justification for their move to dissolve the House. ....

Oli and Dahal get back to customary blame game-now a bit more fiercely
Kathmandu Post
Kathmandu, Dec. 25 More political drama unfolded in Kathmandu on Thursday as both factions of the Nepal Communist Party led by KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal held their separate meetings, engaged in passing nasty remarks against each other and indulged in some gimmicks.
No one knows yet whose Nepal Communist Party is legitimate, as both have approached the Election Commission in a bid to prove their majority and claim control over the party.
In a significant development on Thursday, Ram Bahadur Thapa, a long-time ally of Dahal, decided to join the Oli faction. Thapa, who is currently home minister in the Oli Cabinet, was Dahal s comrade in arms during the people s war days. For the Dahal faction, Thapa s defection could be a major loss but most of those leaders close to Thapa have stayed with the Dahal faction. ....

Confrontation looms in the ruling party as Oli remains defiant

Confrontation looms in the ruling party as Oli remains defiant
Kathmandu Post
Kathmandu, Dec. 19 Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli s refusal to withdraw an ordinance on the Constitutional Council Act despite committing to doing so before his party has stoked concerns if the Nepal Communist Party chair is scheming a more serious political move.
Party insiders say they were unable to figure out what Oli is up to but the way he has been holding meetings with leaders close to him and still refusing to abide by party decisions is an indication that he would not hesitate to take drastic steps. ....
