Late on Thursday afternoon, Sonic Automotive chief executive officer David Smith released a statement on the passing of the company’s founder and executive chairman Bruton Smith.
Smith was considered one of the most forward-thinking track operators and promoters in all of motorsports.
O. Bruton Smith, who emerged from North Carolina farm country and parlayed his love of motorsports into a Hall of Fame career as one of the biggest track owners and most successful promoters in the history of auto racing, died Wednesday. He was 95.
Smith founded the company that owns New Hampshire Motor Speedway and 10 other racetracks.
