Surge testing being carried out after Indian variant found in Reading


EXTRA Covid-19 testing for more than 30,000 residents and workers in postcode areas RG1 3, RG1 5, RG1 6 and RG1 7 will begin next week.
Everyone over the age of 12 who lives, works or studies in these postcode areas is being asked to take an extra test from Monday, June 7, for two weeks.
Those in the target groups can access a test by attending a local test site from Monday, June 7.
Test sites include Prospect Park and Reading University.
A full list of sites and opening hours is available at www.reading.gov.uk/testnow and will be updated as more sites become available. No appointment is needed.  ....

Reading families in need to be given food vouchers and help with fuel costs

FOOD vouchers and help with fuel costs will be provided to children and families in most need in Reading this February half-term.
Brighter Futures for Children (BFfC), Reading Borough Council (RBC) and Reading’s schools will again be working together to help ensure no disadvantaged children in the borough go hungry or without heating.
The scheme follows a successful joint operation at the end of last year which resulted in 3,596 food vouchers being issued to Reading families over the Christmas break.
The government’s Winter Grant Scheme includes £15 food vouchers for children who currently receive pupil premium free school meals. ....

I personally feel this frustration too and my thoughts are with you all.
Those in Tier 4 cannot mix indoors with anyone not from their household – so we can no longer mix with anyone outside our own household at Christmas - although support bubbles will remain in place for those at particular risk of loneliness or isolation.
Cllr Brock also reminded the town of other changes to be aware of, including:
The closure of non-essential businesses. This includes all non-essential retail, along with hairdressers, nail bars, indoor gyms and leisure facilities
People must stay at home, unless travelling to work, for education, for childcare or in an emergency ....
