California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1278 requiring physicians and surgeons licensed pursuant to the California Medical Practice Act and their employers to provide patients with notices about the Open Payments database starting January 1, 2023.
California Assembly Bill 1278, requires a physician and surgeon defined as a physician and surgeon licensed pursuant to the Medical Practice Act or an osteopathic physician and surgeon licensed by the Osteopathic Medical Board of California under the Osteopathic Act.
New California law will require physicians and employers to provide patients with several forms of notice about Open Payments database starting January 2023. Law is intended to increase patient awareness of database to make informed decisions about drugs and devices.
