Anoka, Minnesota (CNN) — In the thick of a Minnesota winter, it's not uncommon to see dogs \u2014 especially those of the short-haired, sinewy or small variety \u2014 sporting outerwear on their neighborhood strolls or jaunts around the state's many lakes.
We're seeing more and more dogs and cats wearing clothing, but are they necessary?

The very idea of dog apparel may conjure images of some famous canine couture: Bruiser Woods’ fetching pink-hued wardrobe in “Legally Blonde;” Frank the pug’s sharp suit & tie in “Men in Black;” or Eddie’s bright yellow rain slicker on a stormy Seattle episode of “Frasier.”
