West has been accused of turning his label, Original Block Hustlaz, into an illegal organization that has been tied to the 2017 murder of Robert Johnson. However, U.S. District Judge Michael Baylson claims the murder and the lyrics of his music were not factored into his sentence. “You could have been a hero instead of a criminal,” Baylson said. “But you became a drug dealer. You made that decision. That’s why you’re being punished.” AR-Ab replied to the judge by telling him that he “doesn’t understand his culture.”

Philadelphia rapper AR-Ab is expected to spend the next four decades behind bars. According to the  Philadelphia Inquirer, the 38-year-old artist legal name Abdul West was sentenced Thursday to 45 years in prison for his alleged role in a drug-trafficking ring. The news comes less than three years after AR-Ab and eight other men were arrested on federal drug charges.
