The Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested one Mr Bonny Okonkwo, a businessman and activist from Oraifite in Ekwusigo council area of the state for allegedly criticising one Chief Emeka Offor. Okonkwo, who was arrested on January 3, has been in detention at State Police Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka for the past 15 days without being charged to court for any offence other than that Chief Offor, a Business Mogul and Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC felt insulted. ....

The NIS provided the figures in its 2020 Annual Report released on Tuesday.
Bimbola Ojo, Assistant Comptroller-General, Planning, Research and Statistics, said 3,112 Nigerians were refused departure, while 3,563 foreigners were denied entry due to COVID-19.
The official said the pandemic caused a sharp reduction in the movement of people into the country by land and air.
However, there was a huge rise in the number of immigrants through sea borders.
“In 2019, 40,872 immigrants made their way to the country through the sea. The figure shot up to 213,116 immigrants in 2020. This represents an increase of 13.5 per cent in 2020 compared to 7 per cent in 2019.” ....

Osugbo leaders dragged to court for 'hijacking' Ogun Oba's corpse

Family of the late Alaye – Aba of Aba Ayepe, Ogun State, Oba Rauf Adebayo Raji-Suleimon, has dragged members of the Osugbo society in Ijebuland before a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, for allegedly hijacking the corpse of the deceased traditional ruler from them.
DAILY POST learnt that the monarch, who died on January 22, 2021, was allegedly hijacked and forcefully removed from the custody of his family by the Osugbo society.
It was gathered that the traditionalists insisted that the monarch must be buried according to traditional rites, being an Oba.
But, the family disagreed with the Osugbo society, saying the monarch, being a practising Muslim, must be buried according to Islamic rites. ....
