The Imo State Police Command on Tuesday said it had deployed a total of 3200 personnel to ensure adequate security in the state as Muslim faithful mark the Eid-El-Fitr celebration.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, the command assured Imo indigenes that it is collaborating with all security agencies in the state.

Family raises alarm as New Telegraph staff goes missing after being arrested by police in Imo

The whereabouts of the Sales Representative of New Telegraph newspaper in Imo State, Mr. Chuks Ugwuibe has become a source of worry after he was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force at the Banana Junction in Orlu.
Ugwuibe was on Tuesday morning arrested around a news stand at Banana Junction, Orlu on his weekly routine trip of collecting sales returns for his company, New Telegraph.
A police team reportedly swooped on the news stand and whisked him away alongside other victims.
But the state Police spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu when contacted, said he was yet to be briefed about the said arrest and promised to get back.

They were rescued while trying to cross to Niger Republic, en-route to Europe.
Jigawa State Controller of NIS, Ismaila Abba Aliyu said the arrest was made by the personel of Operation Salam, along Kazaure Babura axis in the State.
He explained that the victims with no valid travelling document were planning to cross Niger Republic, Libiya to Europe.
The suspects, between the age of 16-27 are indigenes of Lagos, Kwara, Imo and Ogun states.
The agent was awaiting the victims in Niger Republic and planned to convey them to Libya through deserts.

Residents of Orlu, Imo State, are currently frightened by the heavy presence of fierce looking military men at checkpoints.
Our correspondent learnt that the military men shot indiscriminately for several hours at Umuna and the Timber Market junction along the Orlu/Owerri rRoad.
According to a source from the community, the shootings caused panic among the people, who have since retired into their various homes for fear of being harmed or killed.
“They have been shooting like this since morning; if they stop, they will continue later. We don’t know why they are shooting, but we are afraid; we don’t want to be victims of their continued shooting,” the source stated.

THE Vice Chancellor of Abia State University Uturu, Prof. Oneymachi Ogbulu, has directed that all lectures and interactions be held from 9 am to 4 pm.
The directive came after hoodlums kidnapped an unidentified number of students of the university on Thursday.
According to the university Registrar, Acho Elendu, “On no account should any lecturer go contrary to this directive as unpleasant consequences await defaulters”.
The VC assured the management, staff and students of their protection, stating that “no stone will be left unturned to ensure the protection of lives and property”.
Meanwhile, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Jane Agbede, the state PPRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna and Imo State PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwu, proved abortive as they did not answer calls and text messages put across to them.

BREAKING: 'IPOB militants' gunned down in attack on Imo police station

The incident is coming less than 24 hours after Abutu Yaro, the new police commissioner, assumed duty.
The gun duel between security operatives and the attackers lasted several hours as the military sent reinforcement from the 34 artillery brigade, Obinze, in Owerri, the state capital.
Residents of Orlu and its environs were in panic mode while the gun duel lasted.
“We slept with our hearts in our hands last night,” a resident of the area, who preferred not to be mentioned, told our correspondent.
The gunmen allegedly set ablaze an Armoured Personnel Carrier at Umuna junction in Orlu town.
The Police Spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, could not be reached but a police source confirmed the incident.

Eight Killed As Operatives Resist Attack On Imo Police Division

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Security operatives made a breakthrough for the first time in Imo this year as they successfully resisted and repelled an attack on Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters by unknown gunmen.
The incident, which happened Thursday night, saw the joint security operatives killing about eight hoodlums in the gun duel.
The Police Spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, could not be reached but a senior police officer confirmed the development .
The police officer said that the corpses of the hoodlums and their vehicles had been brought to the state police command headquarters in Owerri.
He disclosed that the police divisional headquarters was not razed neither was any security personnel killed in the attack.
