remembering katrina five years later. good evening, everyone. new orleans is marking the katrina anniversary with music, prayer and celebration. that s where we find sheldon fox. reporter: curt, we re inside the empty mahalia jackson theater. but it was a lively spot earlier tonight. you talk to many new orleanians on this day and they ll tell you we re sick and tired of hearing about this fifth anniversary, sick of seeing the video loop of people out of their homes in flooded areas. but as they watched what happened on that stage tonight the mood in this place changed. you got the feeling people were more than entertained, they were jubilant. how do you get people to trade their tears for total jubilation? to get out of their seats and dance with glee? on the fifth anniversary of a ....

Is that an unrealistic goal in the sense that these people feel they have been let down before? you know, i defer to james carville and mary on this as new orleanians. but to me it echoed what president bush said during katrina about building the levees bigger and better and leaving it bigger and better. i think just kind of the echo of that raises some eyebrows with some folks here. but look, people certainly hope that is the case. i think the devil is in the details, and how is that actually going to going to occur. i had a lady who i was eating breakfast the other day and a lady came and sat down next to me and said look, i m sorry to bother you, but please don t forget about us there. a lot of hoopla right now, a lot of reporters around. but please don t forget about us a couple months from now, a year from now. and i think a lot of people want to make sure that the u.s. government doesn t forget about them here. you know, louisiana, folks who haven t been here maybe don t unde ....
