A councillor has called on Laois County Council to address a ‘very emotive issue’ and carry out urgent works at St Fintan s Cemetery, Mountrath following damage to headstones.
Cllr James Kelly made the appeal at the recent Borris in Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
“Cattle got into the graveyard and knocked over and damaged headstones, and that’s a very emotive issue for people who have their beloved buried in the cemetery,” he said.
Mr Tadhg Madden, Executive Engineer, Corporate, Climate and Community, replied on behalf of the council.
“Laois County Council will investigate the availability of funding for the provision of bollards and a new post and rail fence at St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Mountrath. ....

A rough and tough road in the Cullohill area has attracted a lot of complaints, according to Cllr Ollie Clooney.
He wants Laois County Council to re-surface the road near Boston, Cullohill.
“I’ve got a lot of complaints about this. It is very rough and tough in places. Lorries use it on the way from Manor Stone. I would
be very grateful if something was done,” he said at the recent Borris in Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer replied Laois County Council will assess this road in the overall context of the development of a future roads programme. ....

Road flooding at a road in Rosenallis has reached a point where it is almost unusable, according to Cllr Seamus McDonald.
The councillor wants Laois County Council to resolve the flooding problem at Clonduff, Rosenallis.
While a long-running problem, its condition has deteriorated to a point where it is unusable
“It’s almost impossible to use the road, it s that bad,” he said at the recent Borris in Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
Mr Edmond Kenny, District Engineer replied that the council would arrange to meet Cllr McDonald at the site and will undertake a level survey to identify a possible drainage outfall to solve this issue. ....
