With pressurization. once we realize we can't do it and it appears that be the case we would begin an emergency descent after we deploy the oxygen masks, which may have already been deployed through the automatic system anyhow. most systems are set up to deploy when the cabin altitude as opposed the altitude reaches 10,000 feet. so we'd apply speed brakes, any other known means within our procedure for that are particular aircraft to get it safely to a breathable altitude. >> and that would be the roller coaster feeling mary schiavo was just dressing. that feeling in the pit of your stomach fo...

Pressure inside the aircraft. you have a constant flow of pressurization coming from the engines into cabin on this aircraft. it's just regulated as far as what altitude. now, remember altitude and pressure are what maintain the breathability of the air. so this outflow valve then controls how much pressure is inside the cabin. you're maintaining that cabin pressure at a normal 8,000 feet or 10,000 feet at the most. so that would make it regular air. now, when this outflow valve fails, let's say it gets plugged up it can overpressurize the cabin, so there's another valve called the safety valv...

First of all, to get to it from the cabin area. you'd have to take them -- they're in the back of aircraft. they'd have to be taken out, brought forward. the best way take it out of the aircraft would to take it to the equipment bay and drop it overboard through the outflow valve, which is in the bottom of the bay. that would be about the only way you could do it. again, it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to get it from the tail of the aircraft into the interior of the aircraft. >> professor stupples, i wonder about your level of optimism. we were hearing a lot of it from air ch...

Occur from time to time. generally they don't create any kind of situation that would be alarming. however, this one was unique. i want to stress the fact that it was unique, very, very rare situation. maintenance normally catches these when they're terribly small and not any event. remember randi, there's at least one hole in the airplane all the time. that's the hole that we hose the outflow valve. that valve oscillates back and forth and controls from the cockpit to provide for apprecia pressurization in the airplane. the higher you get, the more it closes. there are other little holes that...
